Summary 

U.S. Travel Association—the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the $1.3 trillion U.S. travel industry—is seeking a bold, strategic marketing leader to serve as our Vice President, Marketing and Digital.

At a pivotal moment for the industry, you will lead a future-focused marketing function that accelerates our mission: to increase travel to and within the United States. You will elevate our brand, refine our messaging, and drive intentional outreach to inform and persuade members, policymakers, media and the broader travel industry.

The Vice President, Marketing and Digital is a visionary and strategic leader responsible for driving brand visibility, digital innovation, and integrated marketing efforts that elevate the U.S. Travel Association and the broader travel industry. This role oversees brand management, digital platforms, content strategy, social media, email marketing, and analytics to ensure cohesive, high-impact communication and engagement with key audiences.

Responsibilities

  1. Brand, Audience & Content Strategy

    • Brand Strategy: Own and evolve U.S. Travel’s brand identity and narrative to ensure a modern, unified presence across all channels. Lead the development and rollout of a refreshed brand story that aligns with strategic priorities.
    • Creative Excellence: Set and uphold a high creative standard that reflects the Association’s leadership and voice.
    • Audience Intelligence: Maintain a clear understanding of key audiences—policymakers, members, partners, media—to ensure audience-centric communication.
    • Content Strategy: Translate complex policy, research, and industry issues into compelling, multichannel content that positions U.S. Travel as a thought leader.

    Serve as brand steward, ensuring consistent messaging across all internal and external initiatives.

  2. Integrated Marketing & Campaigns

    • Event Marketing: Lead integrated marketing for major events (IPW, ESTO, Destination Capitol Hill), driving attendance, sponsorship, and engagement. Develop campaigns that elevate the event experience before, during and after.
    • Advocacy Marketing: Design campaigns that mobilize members, build grassroots support, and influence key stakeholders in Washington.
    • Member Marketing: Manage lifecycle marketing to support member acquisition, engagement, and retention—clearly communicating the value of membership.
    • Integrated Campaigns: Plan and execute cross-channel campaigns in support of events, advocacy, research, and membership priorities across email, digital, social and paid media.
  3. Digital Strategy & Marketing Operations

    • Website Redesign: Lead the strategy, design, and launch of a new user-centric website that enhances digital engagement and aligns with the refreshed brand.
    • Technology & Tools: Oversee marketing platforms (CRM, CMS, marketing automation, analytics, event tools) to enable segmentation, personalization, and measurement. Champion future-ready tools, including AI-enabled applications.
    • Workflow & Production: Streamline project intake and production of creative assets, ensuring brand-aligned and timely execution across all marketing channels.
  4. Analytics & Strategic Insights

    • Measurement & ROI: Define and report KPIs for campaigns and content, delivering actionable insights on engagement and performance.
    • Culture of Optimization: Foster a data-driven mindset across the team, embracing testing, optimization and iterative improvement.
  5. Team Leadership & Organizational Impact

    • Lead and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary marketing team built on collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
    • Drive alignment across Membership, Events, Government Relations, Research, and Communications.
    • Act as a strategic player-coach—setting vision, guiding execution, and stepping in as needed.
    • Collaborate with senior leaders and agency partners to ensure seamless, integrated execution.
    • Oversee vendor relationships and budgets with a focus on efficiency and results.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing a high-performing team and budget.
  • Proven track record of building successful brand and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to manage external agencies and other stakeholders effectively.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies for a trade association, travel company, high-growth company, or complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong background in content strategy, lifecycle marketing, audience segmentation, campaign planning and digital tools.
  • Experience marketing major events, conventions, or trade shows to drive attendance and sponsorship revenue is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the marketing technology stack (e.g., Salesforce, ESP, Google Analytics).
  • Experience translating policy/advocacy objectives into compelling campaigns is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field is preferred.

Other

  • This position is based in Washington, D.C.
  • U.S. Travel staff work in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Other duties as assigned; this job description is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may evolve.
  • Salary range: 200-230K
